So, I've been experimenting with ways to enlarge Tanktastic screenshots without much loss in quality. I really can't wait till the update so this becomes easier, but for now this is what I got.

Take this screenshot, for example. I took it by using the friends list:

Screenshot (113).png

Now, let's crop out the menu.

Next is the tricky part. it's not 16:9, but cropping it might cut parts of the tanks out.

Screenshot (202).png

Luckily it did not, but let's see how enlarging it and sharpening goes...

...And there you go! That's how I make gigantic screenshots of Tanktastic in high quality. Of course, the original screenshot had a bunch of post-processing effects that my laptop's GPU supports. A screenshot from a tablet will have jagged edges on it. There is a way to enable MSAA x4 on Android, though the effect greatly hampers performance.

Brilliant! The textures are insanely eye popping.

I went further. Much further.

It was so large that imgur wouldn't let me upload it, so I saved it to Google Drive.

Here's a link.

I used a different method for this one. Instead of using GIMP to enlarge the image, I used an interpolation method (fancy term for guessing where pixels will be if an image is enlarged) called waifu2x. Great name, right? The final image size is 5,120 x 2,880 pixels (5k). It's also much higher quality. Here's a download link to the program I used. It's very CPU intensive, and may take a very long time to work on slower computers. There's also an online version, but it can't process images larger than 1280x1280.

A nice method, thank you for sharing!

You don't have to use any third party software for sharing pictures, there's an easier method. You may just create a private topic, where you upload your pictures. When you want to post a post that includes a picture, you do as you already are aware of; copy the picture's link and post it as an image.

Remember to password protect your private topic.

Kind regards;

The 5k image was larger than 50MB, so I couldn't upload it here anyway. I could use that for 4k images, though.

I use GIMP for image editing.

I like how smooth the textures are. Would love to see how it would look like in native 4k or 5k.

To be honest, the game just looks worse at higher resolutions. My emulator is set to 1440p, so it can take screenshots that size natively (with jagged edges) even though my monitor is 1080p. The screenshots I actually use are taken with Window's screenshot feature instead of the emulator's, so they are at 1080p. That's one of the ways my screenshots look so smooth compared to ones taken by tablets. I'm pretty much using a form of supersampling.

The limit on texture size for mobile Unity games is 1024x1024, and most of Tanktastic's textures are much lower than that. I think only the textures on the tanks reach that limit, if you look at the tree in the background of that screenshot it's very easy to tell. The models in the game are around PS2 quality, and it's due to hardware limitations on mobile devices. The end result is the game looks very barren with higher resolutions on larger screens, which is natural considering the game is meant to be played on a small screen with very high pixel density. That tends to negate a need for anti-aliasing and higher textures anyway.

Now that I think about it, imagine PLAYING 2.0 in 4k :D :D
The only devices that could actually run that properly though are probably just gaming PCs. Current gen consoles likely can't even even handle that lol

That explains. 50 MB for a picture is quite a lot. I've 11,000 screenhots of this game, about 4 GB. Imagine if every screenshot was at 50 MB. :P

Some devices can handle it. Nvidia Shield K1 is one. You can use it to play android games and a bunch of current gen games full resolution, 60fps.

Bow down to my dank memes.

The resolution of the K1's screen is 1920x1200. It might be able to play Tanktastic at 4k since it can output that resolution to a TV. It has a GPU similar to the GT 720, it's weak for a PC GPU but very powerful for a mobile GPU. The problem is 4k displays are expensive and rare. The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium has a 4k display but a much weaker GPU.

However, for the K1 to take screenshots that look as good as the ones I can make, it would have to output 5k resolution to a 4k screen (x4/3 SSAA) and use 8x FXAA. It can't really do either of those things.

mega number and mega late*****

It's only a new engine, nothing else. The graphics will look the same as now, only difference is that everything got retextured. Same potatoes graphics, same tanks, just skinned.

Bow down to my dank memes.
